Current Research Themes
The theme of my research is the Ishū retsuzō [A Series of Portraits of Ainu Chiefs], a leading work by Kakizaki Hakyō (1764–1826), painter and chief retainer of the Matsumae domain, as well as literary networks of the late Edo period. I am also deeply interested in how the original Ishū retsuzō ended up being taken to France.
